The reef octopus is a master of camouflage and behaviour, found throughout shallow tropical and subtropical reefs. Its body can shift colour and texture in seconds—from mottled brown to striking blue or red—making it both a challenge to spot and a delight to observe. Active hunters that feed on crustaceans and small fish, these octopuses are curious and intelligent, often investigating divers with apparent interest. Look for them in coral crevices and rocky outcrops, usually in depths under 40 metres.
