Green Sea Turtle

Green sea turtles are large marine chelonians with a smooth, heart-shaped shell that darkens with age. Adults typically forage in shallow seagrass beds and coastal reefs across tropical and subtropical waters worldwide, though they migrate vast distances between feeding and nesting grounds. Named for the greenish fat beneath their shell rather than shell colour, these turtles are primarily herbivorous as adults, grazing on seagrass and algae. Listed as endangered, populations face ongoing pressure from fishing nets, coastal development, and climate change affecting nesting beaches.
