The bigeye trevally is a powerful, streamlined jack with a noticeably large eye and dark bands across its silvery body. Found in tropical and subtropical waters, usually near reefs and drop-offs between 5 and 40 metres, it hunts in fast, coordinated schools, herding smaller fish into tight balls before striking. Divers often spot them in the blue water or cruising the edge of a reef, sometimes solo but more commonly in a group.
