Arctic char are small, elegant salmonids found in cold northern waters and deep alpine lakes. Their bodies are streamlined and typically silvery-green on the back, fading to white or cream on the belly, often with red spots along the flanks. They favour depths below 10 m in their preferred habitat and are well-adapted to low temperatures. These fish are highly migratory in some populations, moving between rivers and the sea, while others remain landlocked year-round.
