The yellowmouth moray is a sleek, elongated eel found in rocky and coral reef habitats across tropical and subtropical waters. Its most distinctive feature is the bright yellow coloration around its mouth and gill openings, contrasting sharply with its darker body. Like other morays, it hunts primarily at night, sheltering in crevices during the day and emerging to feed on small fish and crustaceans. Divers often spot it peering from holes in the reef; approach slowly and it will usually remain stationary rather than flee.
