The titan triggerfish is a large, heavily built trigger with a blunt head and powerful jaws capable of crushing hard corals and sea urchins. Adults typically patrol shallow reef slopes and lagoons from 5 to 40 metres, often singly or in pairs, and are known for aggressive territorial behaviour—they will charge at divers who approach their nesting sites. Mottled green or grey-brown coloration and a deep body profile make them unmistakable; they can reach lengths over 60 cm. The combination of size, intelligence, and willingness to defend their space makes encounters memorable.
