The striped eel catfish is a slender, dark fish marked by pale yellow or white stripes running the length of its body—a pattern that persists from juvenile schooling stages into adulthood. Found in shallow coastal waters and coral reef environments across Indo-Pacific regions, it hunts nocturnally for small fish and crustaceans, often remaining hidden in crevices or seagrass during the day. Divers may encounter them singly or in loose aggregations, particularly around rubble and rocky areas at dusk. All fin spines carry venomous tissue; care should be taken during close observation.
