The sailfish is an unmistakable pelagic predator, recognisable by its enormous sail-like dorsal fin and elongated bill. Found in tropical and subtropical oceans worldwide, it hunts small fish and squid at speed, often working in coordinated groups to herd prey into tight balls before striking. Divers occasionally encounter sailfish in open water or near reefs during game-fish dives, particularly in locations known for big-game fishing.
