The Red Sea steephead parrotfish is a chunky, robust parrotfish with a distinctly steep forehead profile that gives the species its name. Found in the Red Sea and adjacent waters, it inhabits coral reef environments where it grazes on algae and coral polyps, using its powerful beak to scrape and crunch through hard substrates. Like other parrotfish, it produces sand as a byproduct of feeding—a quiet but substantial contributor to reef sediment.
