The Red Sea bannerfish is a striking member of the butterflyfish family, recognisable by its distinctive black-and-white banded body and elongated dorsal fin that gives the genus its name. Found in Red Sea reefs and nearby waters, it inhabits coral-rich areas from shallow depths down to around 40 m. These fish often school in small groups, moving methodically through branching corals as they feed on plankton and small organisms.
