The peacock grouper is a strikingly patterned predator found on Indo-Pacific coral and rocky reefs, typically between 10 and 40 metres. Its body is covered in bright blue rings and spots reminiscent of peacock plumage, making it instantly recognizable. This ambush hunter lurks among reef structures, relying on explosive bursts of speed to catch small fish and crustaceans. It grows to around 40 cm and is generally solitary or in pairs.
