The Oriental Sweetlips is a stocky, gregarious fish found on coral and rocky reefs across Indo-Pacific waters, typically at depths between 5 and 40 metres. Juveniles display bold white stripes on a dark body; adults develop a more mottled pattern with yellow-tinged fins. The fish feeds nocturnally on small crustaceans and molluscs, spending daylight hours in loose schools near shelter, making it a reliable sight on reef dives at dawn or dusk.
