The orbicular batfish is a silvery, disc-shaped fish that appears almost circular when viewed head-on—a shape that becomes especially pronounced in juveniles. Found in shallow tropical reefs and around structures down to about 40 metres, it frequents sheltered lagoons and areas with coral or rocky outcrops. These fish gather in loose schools and feed on small crustaceans and organic debris, often hovering close to the seabed. Divers will recognise them by their flattened profile, rounded outline, and tendency to move with an oddly stiff, sailing motion rather than typical fish swimming.
