The lyretail grouper is a large, deep-water grouper distinguished by its elongated body and characteristic lyre-shaped tail fin. Found on deep reefs and slopes, typically beyond 50 metres, it remains elusive and is rarely encountered on recreational dives. Its streamlined silhouette and graceful fin profile make it unmistakable when spotted.
