The Indian mackerel is a streamlined, silver-sided fish with a greenish back and distinctive dark vertical bands along its flanks. Found in coastal waters and reef environments across the Indo-Pacific, it typically occurs in small to large schools near the surface and in shallow depths. These fast-swimming fish feed on small fish and crustaceans and are often seen moving rapidly through open water or around reef edges during dawn and dusk.
