The great white shark is a powerful predator found in temperate and subtropical waters worldwide, typically patrolling depths between 0 and 1200 metres. Adults grow to around 6 metres, with a stocky grey body, white underside, and distinctive black eye. These sharks are apex hunters: they approach prey—seals, sea lions, and large fish—from below and behind, using explosive speed to breach the surface. Now listed as vulnerable, great whites remain a priority for conservation efforts globally.
