The Devil Scorpionfish is a cryptic predator found on coral and rocky reefs, where its mottled brown and red colouration provides perfect camouage against rubble and encrusting organisms. Like other scorpionfish, it relies on stealth rather than speed, lying motionless on the seafloor and ambushing small fish and crustaceans with a rapid mouth strike. Venomous spines along its dorsal fin demand respectful distance—admire from afar and watch where hands and knees go when exploring the reef.
