The Caribbean spiny lobster lacks the large claws of its temperate cousins, instead relying on a pair of long, whip-like antennae for defense and sensory navigation. These nocturnal creatures inhabit rocky reefs and seagrass beds from shallow waters down to around 80 m, moving in single-file processions across the seafloor during their seasonal migrations—a behaviour that remains only partially understood. Divers are most likely to spot them at night, when they emerge from crevices to forage; by day, they retreat into shelter.
