The Caribbean Reef Octopus is a master of camouflage, shifting colour and texture in seconds as it hunts across shallow reefs and seagrass beds. Look for it from the surface down to around 40 metres, especially near crevices and rubble where it can wedge itself during the day. At night it becomes active, prowling for crabs, shrimp, and small fish with remarkable intelligence and problem-solving ability. Its ability to change not just colour but skin pattern makes it one of the reef's most captivating animals to watch.
