The Cape fur seal is a robust pinniped found along the southern African coast, particularly around South Africa and Namibia. Adults are stocky and dark, with males reaching up to 2.3 metres and noticeably larger than females. These seals are highly social, hauling out in large colonies on rocky outcrops and beaches. Divers may encounter them in shallow coastal waters where they hunt fish and squid; they are curious but can be unpredictable, so maintaining distance is wise.
