Bryde's whales are streamlined baleen whales found in tropical and subtropical waters worldwide, typically between 12–15 metres long. Unlike most other baleen whales, they remain in warm waters year-round rather than migrating to polar feeding grounds. Solitary or in small groups, they feed on schooling fish—particularly sardines and anchovies—by lunging through the water with their mouths open. Their three longitudinal ridges on the head (rather than one, as in fin whales) are a useful identifying feature. Encounters are possible in deeper offshore waters during liveaboard dives in suitable regions.
