The blackfin barracuda is a sleek, silvery predator found in Indo-Pacific coral and rocky reefs, typically between 10 and 40 metres. It grows to around 60 cm and hunts small fish with sudden bursts of speed, often hovering near the reef edge before striking. Divers may encounter them solo or in loose groups; they are generally wary but curious, and will circle cautiously if approached slowly.
