yellowtail clownfish

The yellowtail clownfish is a small, stocky damselfish with the characteristic white bands and orange body of its genus, distinguished by a yellow tail. Found across the Indo-Pacific in shallow coral reef habitats, typically at depths of 1–20 metres, it lives in close association with host anemones—particularly the carpet anemone and magnificent anemone. Like all clownfish, yellowtail clownfish exhibit protandry: the largest individual in an anemone colony is female, the second-largest male, and the rest non-reproductive. These fish are popular in the aquarium trade and relatively hardy in captivity.
