The yellowmargin triggerfish is a stocky, robust fish found on coral and rocky reefs across the Indo-Pacific, typically between 5 and 40 metres depth. It is named for the bright yellow or orange margins that edge its dorsal and anal fins, contrasting with a body that ranges from grey to brown. These fish are solitary or in loose groups, and are known for their aggressive territorial behaviour—they will chase divers away from nests during breeding season. Like other triggerfishes, it can lock its dorsal spine in the upright position, wedging itself into reef crevices for shelter.
