Yellow goatfish are small, slender fish recognizable by their bright yellow body and the pair of long barbels hanging from their chin—sensory organs used to probe the sand for hidden invertebrates. Found in shallow coastal waters and reef environments across tropical and subtropical regions, they typically hover near the seabed in small groups, darting down to feed on crustaceans and small organisms stirred from the sand. Divers often spot them at depths of 5–30 metres, sometimes in mixed schools with other goatfish species.
