The Yellow-Banded Perch is a small, colourful grouper found in rocky and coral reef habitats, typically at depths between 5 and 40 metres. Its distinctive yellow bands running across a dark body make it easy to identify among reef crevices and overhangs where it hunts small fish and crustaceans. This solitary, territorial fish is more cryptic than aggressive, preferring to ambush prey from shelter rather than patrol open water.
