Wunderpus Octopus

Wunderpus photogenicus

Rank
Species

The wunderpus octopus is a small, cryptic cephalopod found on sandy and muddy bottoms across the Indo-Pacific region, typically at depths between 40 and 200 metres. Its distinctive appearance includes bold white and orange-red patterns and prominent papillae that give it a bumpy texture. Despite its conspicuous colours, it remains elusive and is rarely encountered by divers; when disturbed, it can rapidly change colour and texture to vanish into the substrate.
