Wolf Fish

The wolf fish is a formidable predator of cold northern waters, identifiable by its blunt head, powerful jaws, and mottled grey-brown body. A solitary bottom-dweller, it hunts among rocky crevices and kelp forests at depths between 20 and 300 metres, using its strong teeth to crush hard-shelled prey—sea urchins, mussels, and crustaceans. Divers in northern Atlantic sites may spot one wedged into a crevice, where it spends much of its time.
