Whitespotted Filefish

The whitespotted filefish is a small, cryptic member of the filefish family, recognisable by white spots scattered across its tan or grey body. It inhabits reef edges and rubble zones, often in deeper water from about 20 to 60 metres, where it feeds on small crustaceans and tunicates by picking carefully at the substrate. Like other filefishes, it moves with precise control using its dorsal and anal fins, and can change colour subtly to blend with its surroundings.
