Weedy Seadragon

The weedy seadragon drifts among seagrass and kelp beds along southern Australian coasts, camouflaged by leaf-like appendages that trail from its body. Growing to around 46 cm, this relative of seahorses moves slowly and deliberately, relying on its cryptic form rather than speed to avoid predators. Once common in shallow southern waters, weedy seadragon populations have declined significantly; the species is now listed as vulnerable.
