Tarakihi

Tarakihi are silvery, elongated fish that inhabit rocky reefs and rocky outcrops from shallow coastal waters down to around 200 metres. They form small schools and are recognisable by their streamlined shape and relatively large dorsal fin. These bottom-dwellers feed on small crustaceans and fish larvae, and are common enough to encounter during reef dives in their range, particularly around New Zealand and southern Australian waters.
