Striped Marlin

Rank
Species

The striped marlin is a streamlined predator of open and coastal waters, recognisable by its elongated bill, tall dorsal fin, and characteristic vertical stripes along the body—stripes that intensify when the fish is excited or feeding. It grows to around 3.5 m and hunts fast-moving prey such as mackerel and squid in warm seas. Divers encounter them occasionally at depth, though they are more commonly seen by anglers; their dramatic leaps when hooked have made them legendary in sport fishing.
