Spotty

The spotty is a small, colourful wrasse found in shallow rocky reefs and kelp forests around New Zealand, typically in depths of 5–20 metres. Named for the dark spots covering its body, this fish displays vibrant hues that range from green to orange depending on sex and social status. Spotties are curious and often approach divers, making them a highlight of temperate southern dives. They feed on small crustaceans and molluscs, picking methodically through crevices and rubble.
