The spotted wobbegong is a nocturnal ambush predator found on the seafloor around southern Australia, identifiable by its flattened body, mottled brown-grey colouration, and distinctive whisker-like barbels around the mouth. Growing to around 3.2 metres, it lies motionless on the bottom waiting for prey to pass within range, then strikes with surprising speed. Divers exploring rocky reefs and sandy slopes at modest depths may encounter one resting in caves or under overhangs during the day.
