The Spotted Moray is a stocky eel with a distinctive pattern of pale spots scattered across its dark body. Found in rocky crevices and coral rubble from shallow reefs down to around 60 metres, it hunts nocturnally, leaving its lair after dark to search for small fish and crustaceans. Like other morays, it relies on acute smell to find prey in murky conditions, and divers may spot it with its head poking from a hole during the day.
