Spiny Devilfish

The Spiny Devilfish is a cryptic scorpionfish found on sandy and silty bottoms across Indo-Pacific reefs. Its mottled brown and grey colouration blends seamlessly with the substrate, making it easy to miss until it moves. Like other venomous scorpionfishes, it has venomous spines along its dorsal fin and should be approached with caution. Watch for its characteristic posture: it often rests partially buried, with only its eyes and venomous dorsal spines protruding above the sand.
