Spinner dolphins are sleek, small cetaceans reaching around 2.3 metres in length, named for their spectacular aerial displays—they launch themselves from the water and spin on their long axis before splashing back down. Found in tropical and subtropical waters worldwide, they often hunt in coordinated pods, diving to depths of 300 metres or more to feed on small fish and squid. Their distinctive long, slender snout and dark grey upper body make them recognisable at distance; closer inspection reveals lighter flanks and a pale belly.
