Pomacanthus xanthometopon is a large angelfish found on Indo-Pacific reefs, typically at depths between 20 and 60 metres. Adults develop a distinctive yellow face and upper body with darker blue-grey lower regions and fins, making them easy to spot against reef structure. These fish are solitary or found in pairs, feeding on sponges and tunicates; juveniles display different coloration with yellow and blue stripes. They grow to around 45 cm and inhabit steep outer reef slopes where current flow is strong.
