Southern Peacock Sole

The Southern Peacock Sole is a small, cryptic flatfish found on sandy and silty bottoms in shallow to moderate depths. Like other soles, it lies flat on the seabed and hunts small invertebrates and fish larvae, relying on camouflage to ambush prey. Look for the characteristic eye migration typical of flatfishes — both eyes on the upper (right) side of the body — and the subtle patterning that helps it blend into the seafloor.
