The robust ghost pipefish is a delicate, elongated relative of seahorses found in Indo-Pacific reefs, typically at 5–40 metres depth. Slender and translucent with a tubular snout, it hunts tiny crustaceans among seagrass and rubble by drifting slowly through the water column. Males brood eggs in a pouch beneath the tail—a behaviour shared with seahorses—making this cryptic fish a rewarding find for patient observers.
