ringtail surgeonfish

The ringtail surgeonfish is a stocky, oval-bodied member of the surgeonfish family, reaching around 45 cm. It inhabits coral reef environments across Indo-Pacific waters, typically found singly or in small groups. The fish gets its name from distinctive dark bands on the tail fin. Like other surgeonfishes, it carries venomous spines on either side of the tail base and feeds primarily on algae and organic detritus.
