The rainbow parrotfish is one of the largest parrotfish species, instantly recognisable by its bold colouration: males display vibrant greens, blues, and yellows, while females are more subdued. Found in tropical Atlantic coral reefs, these fish use their distinctive beak-like teeth to scrape algae and coral polyps from reef surfaces, producing much of the sand that accumulates on Caribbean beaches. Listen for the distinctive crunching sound as they feed—a sign of a healthy reef.
