The pink maomao is a deep-water fish found around rocky reefs and continental slopes, typically at depths beyond 200 metres. Its elongated body and extended pectoral fins—the source of its scientific name *longimanus*—distinguish it from shallower maomao species. Little-known to most divers, this deepwater resident remains poorly studied, making any encounter a genuine rarity.
