The picturesque dragonet is a small, intricately patterned fish found in shallow Indo-Pacific reefs, typically hovering near rubble and sand patches. Its flattened body and elaborate fin markings—swirls of orange, blue, and yellow—make it instantly recognisable, though its cryptic habits and diminutive size (a few centimetres) mean patient searching is needed. It feeds on tiny bottom-dwelling crustaceans and moves in jerky, deliberate motions across the substrate.
