pennant coralfish

The pennant coralfish is a striking butterflyfish with a distinctive black-and-white striped body and an elongated, sail-like dorsal fin that streams behind as it swims. Growing to about 25 cm, it inhabits coral and rocky reefs across Indo-Pacific waters, typically at depths between 5 and 40 metres. These fish often feed in small groups, picking tiny crustaceans and organic matter from the reef surface with their pointed snout. They tolerate brackish conditions and are commonly seen hovering near steep drop-offs and coral heads.
