Panamic sergeant major

The Panamic sergeant major is a damselfish common around rocky outcrops and coral heads in the eastern Pacific. Vertical dark stripes on a pale body make it instantly recognisable, along with a yellow-tinged tail. Small and highly territorial, these fish often hover in loose schools near shelter, darting out to snap at plankton before retreating. They defend feeding spots aggressively and will nip at larger animals that venture too close.
