Oceanic Manta Ray

The oceanic manta ray is the largest ray species, reaching up to 9 m across the wings. These filter-feeders cruise open ocean and coastal waters, often alone or in small groups, using paired head fins to funnel plankton into their mouths. Encounters are unpredictable but memorable—divers may spot them gliding through blue water or aggregating near upwellings. The species is listed as endangered due to fishing pressure and bycatch.
