NZ Fur Seal

New Zealand fur seals are stocky, dark-furred pinnipeds found in coastal waters around New Zealand and southern Australia. They haul out on rocky shores and islands, where they rest between foraging trips in shallow to moderate depths. Divers may encounter them underwater, where they move with surprising agility despite their robust build. These seals are curious and often approach divers, though they should be given space and treated with caution, particularly around breeding colonies.
