Munk's Devil Ray

Munk's devil ray is a small mobulid found in warm coastal and offshore waters, typically at depths between 5 and 60 metres. Adults reach around 1.4 metres across the disc. The species is distinguished by its dark dorsal surface, white or pale ventral side, and the characteristic cephalic fins that funnel plankton into its mouth. It is a filter-feeder, often seen in aggregations cruising near the surface or in open water, sometimes leaping clear of the water—a behaviour characteristic of the genus.
