Mourning Cuttlefish

The mourning cuttlefish is a large cephalopod reaching up to 1.35 m in length, recognisable by its dark, often mottled colouration that shifts with mood and surroundings. Found in deeper waters, it hunts small fish and crustaceans using the rapid arm strike typical of cuttlefish, with a pair of feeding tentacles that shoot out to snatch prey. Like other cuttlefish, it communicates through dramatic changes in skin pattern and texture, creating waves of colour across its body in seconds.
